Welcome to the latest edition of our Spotlight on… series, where we introduce members of our talented team, clients, and partners. Today, we’re excited to put the spotlight on Emile Macarie, a CFD engineering student on work placement who has been making an impact on our new HiPer product.
From France to Bath, from Prépa to Aero CFD
Emile is in his final year of an Integrated Masters in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath. He started his engineering path in Paris, completing a Physics and Engineering Science programme at Lycée Saint-Louis through the rigorous French Prépa system. Emile always planned to study in the UK, but the challenges of Covid postponed this move.
A lucky CFD search led to Zenotech
During his Masters, Emile soon discovered an interest in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Following a university careers advisor’s suggestion, he explored placements at the Bristol and Bath Science Park, and a search for “CFD” led straight to Zenotech.
In at the deep end of HiPer
During his two-month placement with us, Emile worked with Mark Allan and Oliver Darbyshire on our new HiPer product.
“I’ve been running test cases on HiPer, examining its performance for end-users. These included analysing wind speeds around the Canary Wharf buildings, a simple automotive HVAC system, and an aircraft nose landing gear. I’ve been reporting on what works effectively and the areas that need refinement.”
His detailed feedback on the user interface and test results is helping to shape the prioritisation of product refinements and improvements in HiPer’s user experience.
The benefits of a placement in an SME
This hands-on placement marked Emile’s first experience working in a professional engineering setting. Emile told us:
“It’s been rewarding to work in an SME environment. Being in a scrum meeting with the whole team gives you access to senior staff and their expertise. You gain an understanding of product development that you wouldn’t get in a larger, more anonymous company. You learn much faster. The team has been so welcoming.”
Looking ahead, what’s next for CFD engineering student, Emile?
With a keen interest in both aerospace CFD and design, Emile is eager to apply his practical experience from Zenotech as he moves into his career in aero engineering.
We’re wishing Emile all the best in his final year at university. But his journey with us isn’t over. He’s continuing to collaborate on HiPer and is working on some user videos of the new product. Watch this space.
