We were thrilled to welcome James and Charlie, two students from Rougemont School and Chew Valley School respectively, to the Zenotech office for a week of work experience. We’re always ready to play our part in nurturing the next generation, offering them a taste of what their future careers could look like.
Throughout the week, both students (in Years 9 and 10) expanded their existing knowledge from their school studies and some personal coding experience with tools like Raspberry Pi. They dived into learning new skills and enjoyed accessing a fresh set of libraries, gaining hands-on experience by creating 3D models and STL geometry files. They also tried out our new tool, HiPer, using it to create animated aerodynamic simulations of their 3D models, seeing their code come to life.
For James, a career in aero engineering is on the horizon. He had previously participated in an F1 in Schools competition, a STEM activity where students design and manufacture miniature F1 cars using CAD/CAM and CAE tools. During his time with us, he connected with Max Kopacz, one of our team members who previously worked in F1, further igniting his passion for this field.

Charlie, who plans to pursue A-Levels in Maths, Computer Science, and Physics told us:
“I enjoyed the work experience as it gave us time to work on a particular project and make it look refined. It inspired lots of new ideas and verified what I want to do in the future.”
The experience boosted their confidence, showing them they are more than capable of tackling complex code and confidently embarking on their programming projects.
Mark Allan, CAA and CFD Specialist, commented:
“At Zenotech, we’re always keen to share our expertise and knowledge about our tools, whether it’s with clients on consulting projects or students embarking on their learning and career journey. It was inspiring to see Charlie and James getting to grips with the next generation of advanced engineering tools in such a short time.
“As a testament to their ability, progress, and sense of humour (!), they downloaded a cow geometry from the internet, meshed and solved it, producing fun, exciting animations entirely on their own.”
We’re excited to see what the future holds for these two budding CFD experts. Watch this space!
