At Zenotech, we’re keen to inspire the next generation of engineers who can apply their learning in academia and industry, and develop tools and technologies, like our EPIC and zCFD products. Recently, we were delighted to welcome Krystian, who had just finished his GSCEs, to our team for a week over the summer. The progress, which he made over such a short time was truly amazing. The whole team was hugely impressed with Krystian’s ability and work on the placement, so we’re delighted to share this short interview with him.
What activities did you complete on the placement?
Firstly, I started with the basics of visualising test case outputs in ParaView, moving on to tweaking some of the input variables for the test cases and recording the different outputs.
After this, I began to run slightly larger zCFD test cases through EPIC, one of Zenotech’s key products. When I understood how to use EPIC, I then utilised the Python interface with the PyEpic library to run and post-process cases.
Finally, I built upon the skills I learned previously in ParaView, extending them to be able to utilise a broader range of tools to display information in a more easily accessible fashion.
What did you enjoy most?
Probably seeing the final version of my completed project or the feeling of getting a piece of code to work after numerous attempts.
How was the placement useful to you?
It was incredibly useful. This was my first summer placement so I really didn’t know what to expect; I couldn’t have predicted how unbelievably helpful and supportive everyone at Zenotech was.
Also, I didn’t realise how much went into creating an industrial piece of software such as zCFD nor how broad and varied the field of engineering could be. This placement definitely helped me to understand what it may be like to work as an engineer in the future.
What subjects would you like to continue with at school/higher education?
For A level, I will be taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Computer Science. At University, I would love to pursue a degree in a subject, such as engineering or physics.
Do you know what kind of career you would like to pursue?
Engineering would have to be at the top of my list, but I would really like any job with a strong quantitative side to it.
Thanks so much to Krystian for the interview! We’re sure you will join us in wishing him all the best for the future and success in whatever career he chooses.
